The Slider Building is located at 8-14 Stanley Street, Parnell. Adjacent to the existing Carlaw Park development, the Slider Building offers Green Star rated office facilities, currently occupied by the National Library and KiwiRail.

The site is bounded by Stanley Street to the west, a highly trafficked road carrying a large amount of motorway vehicles as well as a considerable number of Port of Auckland trucks, and the main railway network to the east.

Our Brief

Marshall Day Acoustics assessed both road traffic & rail noise and rail vibration to ensure the building structure would provide a suitable internal environment, undisturbed from external noise and vibration sources.

The mechanical services systems were also reviewed in detail and recommendations provided to, not only ensure suitable background sound levels for a library and office environment, but also achieving the Green Star rating points for building services noise and overall building noise.

The separating elements between the tenancies were acoustically designed to ensure a high level of sound insulation was achieved, minimising sound transfer between the tenancies.

Challenges

With the building façades in close proximity to both road and rail noise sources and the predominantly glass façade, providing a high level of sound insulation was paramount to ensuring a quality acoustic environment internally and achieving the indoor quality environment points for Greenstar.

Long term noise monitoring and detailed assessment of the facade design was coordinated with the architect and facade engineer to ensure the the design objectives were achieved.

Of equal value was providing appropriate mechanical services noise levels within the open plan layout and sound insulation between the tenancies.
